Health Foods or Fads?

Now that I am running and therefore getting a good amount of regular exercise I need to look seriously at diet. Underground Health Reporter is one of a number of websites that advocate the benefits of eating naturally and non pharmaceutical remedies.

The infographs are nice but there is no referencing to the evidence on which these claims are based. Maybe I’ll have time to substantiate them later but for now this page just features unprocessed claims. Here are some more:

Number 1: Bananas – People who eat two bananas a day for one whole week can lower their blood pressure levels by 10 percent.

Number 2: Beet – By simply drinking one 500ml glass of beetroot juice each day you can produce astounding health benefits – especially for the heart.

Number 3: Garlic – Consumption of garlic can indeed help lower elevated blood pressure levels.

Number 4: Artichokes – The use of artichokes has been implicated in the lowering of cholesterol levels in the blood.

Number 5: Cocoa – A study conducted by researchers from Germany’s University Hospital of Cologne revealed that cocoa can significantly lower high blood pressure
